Detroit — During a winter commencement ceremony, Detroit Auxiliary Bishop Moses Anderson this month received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Saint Xavier University in Chicago.
Bishop Anderson, who retired from active ministry in 2004, was honored for his work with civil rights both during and before his episcopacy in Detroit. The university noted his efforts beginning a notable interracial tutorial program at St. Catherine Parish in Elizabeth City, N.C., where he served as pastor before coming to Detroit. It also noted his advocacy for educational and civil rights issues for young African Americans with the New York-Vermont Youth Project.
