Fr. William Lunnon, a priest of the Archdiocese of Detroit, died May 29. He was 63 and had been a priest for 28 years.
Fr. Lunnon was born in Savannah, Ga., and attended Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit, and St. John Provincial Seminary, Plymouth Township. He was ordained to the priesthood Dec. 11, 1982, at Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Detroit.
He served as associate pastor at Presentation/Our Lady of Victory Parish, Detroit (1982-83); as associate pastor at St. Gerard Parish, Detroit (1983-84); as associate pastor at St. Suzanne/Our Lady Gate of Heaven Parish, Detroit (1984-86); as administrator at St. Benedict the Moor Parish, Detroit (1986-89); as associate pastor at Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Detroit (1990); as administrator at Precious Blood Parish, Detroit (1990); as a faculty member of Bishop Borgess High School, Redford Township (1991-2001); as weekend assistant at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission and at St. Joseph Parish, both in Port Huron (1991); at Martyrs of Uganda Parish, Detroit (1991-92); and as associate pastor at Precious Blood Parish (1992-93).
He most recently served at St. Mary of Redford Parish, Detroit, where he had been in residence.
He will lie in repose at St. Mary’s of Redford Parish, Detroit, on Thursday, June 9, from noon to 8 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m.
On Friday, June 10, Father Lunnon will lie in repose at St. Cecelia Parish, Detroit, from 10 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
