Editor’s note: The Michigan Catholic received word of Fr. Kirwan’s death shortly before press time on May 31. A full obituary for Fr. Kirwin will be included in our June 17 issue.

Fr. Thomas Kirwan, 68, died on May 30. He was 68 and had been a priest of the Archdiocese of Detroit for 42 years.

Fr. Kirwan had served at Christ the King Parish in Detroit, St. Dorothy Parish in Centerline, St. Hilary Parish in Redford, National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak, Our Lady Queen of All Saints Parish in Fraser, St. Matthias Parish in Sterling Heights, Divine Child Parish in Dearborn and St. Blase Parish in Sterling Heights.

He will be waked at the William Sullivan Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Road, Royal Oak (248-541-7000). Visitation hours will be on Friday, June 3, from 2 to 8 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Father Kirwan will lie in repose on Saturday, June 4, at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Detroit, from 10:30 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will take place at a later date.
