Dearborn – Warren Regina is once again the Catholic High School League Pom Pon Champion.
The Saddlelites, who won the title in 2009, took it back from last year’s champion, Dearborn Divine Child, with 510.6 points to the Falcons’ 481.10. The competition took place at Divine Child.
Coach Beth Wanczyk was pleased with the “wonderful job” her 22-member team did in winning both the pom pon and jazz routines.
She also reported that Regina had recently won the Motor City Dance Championship staged at Birmingham Seaholm High School. The Saddlelites won first place in the jazz routine, and had the highest overall score among all competitors.
Next weekend, Regina will conclude its 2011 schedule at the Spirit Shine Competition in Birch Run. Wanczyk described it as a kind of “state tournament” involving pom pon squads from across Michigan.
Scores of other squads in the CHSL championship: Farmington Hills Mercy 459.60; Birmingham Marian 451.50; Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 438.40; Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart Academy 437.60; Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard 406.20; Riverview Gabriel Richard 360; Allen Park Cabrini 337.80; and Livonia Ladywood 317.
